What does it mean to be an ally? The definition of ally according to Merriam-Webster is to unite or form a connection; or relation between or to form or enter into an alliance, as in two factions allying with each other. Being an ally can be complicated and messy. Especially if we I invite you to think about shifting the phrase “They need us as allies.” to “We need each other.” I leave you this week with this quote from Lilla Watson, an Indigenous Australian academic and activist. “If you have come here to help me, you are wasting your time. But if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.” |
