2023 - Let Compassion Be our Compass

CompassionCon May 2022

Date

Hello Friends,

We have been behind the scenes feverishly working on something we are all very proud to bring to fruition. It started with Leanne and one of her really bright ideas.

“Iyabo, do you know what DragonCon or ComicCon is? She asked. I looked at her with a furrowed brow trying to assess her seriousness through the zoom screen.

“I think I do. Isn’t that when people dress up as strange characters and walk around?” I wondered about this American phenomenon.

Leanne said, “What about a CompassionCon?”

“Huh? People will dress up as Compassion? How is that possible?” I asked, wondering what we were about to get into.

“Well, not quite. It would be a festival that is all about compassion,” she said.

I sighed. She told me all her ideas about it. I kept very quiet with the hopes that if I did not talk about it, the brilliant idea would go away.

Well…. The more she talked about it, the more other people got so excited about it. Me, I was still very quiet, hoping it would go away.

And it got bigger and bigger. Next we were having team meetings and before you know it, I started asking people to sponsor the event and now, just call us the “Queens of CompassionCon!”

I cannot believe how excited we are about this. And it is taking shape nicely!!!

And it is not just going to be in Atlanta, it is going to be in other cities in Georgia!!!

CompassionCon is a multi-city hybrid gathering to encourage and celebrate compassionate action for self, each other, and the Earth. The goal of CompassionCon is to create an interconnected community of care that supports well-being and flourishing for all.

CompassionCon Atlanta is a 3-day event with a large Outdoor Festival in Grant Park on May 21, 2022 from 11am-3pm.  Day one and three are events throughout the city, or virtually,  sponsored by our partners and day two is a Community Compassion Day in Grant Park. During these three days we will share our love for ourselves, our community, and the earth.

We invite you be part of this event. You can offer a meditation, yoga class, or mindfulness activity on Day 1, Friday, May 20th, 2022. It can be in person or online.

You can register as a vendor for Day 2 of CompassionCon, Saturday May 21st at Grant Park. This is the day we celebrate Compassion for each other. We invite your business or organization to engage directly with Metro-Atlanta communities as we celebrate and inform with a backdrop of dramatic performances, entertainment, food, a kids’ zone, and public speakers in Atlanta’s historic Grant Park. Vendor booths will be included throughout the festival grounds and this registration guarantees that your organization will have a table space. You can find our more information below, by visiting https://compassioncon.org

Day 3, Sunday, May 22nd, we offer Compassion to the Earth. You can also offer an event at an urban farm, plant a garden, hike a mountain, visit Amicalola Falls and share your compassion for Mother Earth with others.

Check out the website. Register. Join us. Save the date. Tell others about it. Volunteer opportunities coming soon!

We are committed to Atlanta being a Compassionate City. This is our offering. Join us.
