Springtime in Atlanta is bursting with color. Refresh. Renewal. Rebirth… And Iโve discovered a fresh new way of engaging with the world. It is very simple, like the budding of a tulip. The secret is a small colorful message that surprises the recipient with a statement that sparks joy. They are called โLove Notesโ and they are created by Shelley Hannah in Toronto, Canada. I met Shelly in October and bought a small bag of 25 Love Notes. I had no idea how they would change my life. Too dramatic, you say? Well, after I shared the first 24 (one was for me), I knew I wanted more. So Shelley and I struck up a partnership. She has agreed to make love notes for Compassionate Atlanta with our info and her brilliant bit of sunshine.ย
Each note has a handwritten message and is carefully rolled up and secured with a bit of sparkle. I have been amazed at the reactions I get from giving out these little notes of joy. Nothing quite compares to the smile that I see every time a note is unrolled.ย
The notes say things like, โYour genuineness is an inspiration to others. Yay you!โ Or โ You know how to celebrate well! You help others see the specialness in moments. Thanks!โ. Or โYou are a great community builder. You make it easy for people to come together.โย
Each time, the note falls in just the right hands. I canโt really explain it. But each note seems to tap into a recognition that we know is true but donโt often give ourselves credit for.

In this fleeting interaction, strangers become familiar. For that brief moment we share our common humanity.

I take my notes everywhere I go. I love to give them to store clerks and security guards and janitors and other customers in line or even people that Iโm finishing a meeting with. Totally unconventional and 100% well received.
If you want to try this practice of sharing joy, I invite you to order a bag of Love Notes from our website or visit our table next week at the Clarkston Culture Fest. Or even better… make your own. Either way, enjoy spreading the love!โค๏ธ
Get some and share the kind words withย others!
